What is oil and water photography?

Many people are surprised to learn these images are photographs, not digital illustrations. My work is abstract macro photography created by capturing the interactions of oil and water. Using controlled light and color, I photograph the forms, layers, and textures that emerge as they intersect — resulting in vibrant, organic compositions that feel both fluid and structured. Each final image is selected and curated for distinctive interiors, from hospitality and wellness spaces to private homes. 

 

What is the difference between Studio and Collector Editions?

I offer two editions to suit different spaces and collecting goals.

Studio Edition is an open edition designed for home, office, and boutique hospitality. It is available in my most popular smaller sizes and is printed to order.

Collector Edition is a larger-size photograph and true limited edition of 25 per image, across all sizes. Each piece is a 1/4" face-mounted acrylic with a dibond backing and diamond-polished edges. Every Collector Edition is signed and numbered by me. Once 25 are sold, that image is retired in that edition forever.

 

What is an acrylic print?

An acrylic print is my signature presentation, used for the Collector Edition. Your image is printed on high-grade metallic photo paper and face-mounted to a 1/4" thick acrylic sheet with a dibond backing. Light refracts through the acrylic, creating a luminous, almost backlit effect with exceptional vibrancy and depth. The edges are diamond-polished, giving a clean, frameless, contemporary finish that floats off the wall. 

 

How should I light my print?

Lighting can make a big difference. To preserve the print's longevity, avoid direct sunlight, which can cause gradual damage. Opt instead for indirect, filtered sunlight or ambient room lighting when illuminating your print. 

For extra impact, art lights can enhance vibrancy and color. LED lighting is ideal for its minimal heat output, adjustable color temperature, and brightness control. If hardwiring isn't possible, wireless options work well. To minimize glare on the artwork and reduce shadows, a 30-degree light angle is recommended.

 

How do I care for my acrylic photo print?

Regularly dust your acrylic prints using a lint-free, dry, or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid common chemical cleaners, opting for a specialized acrylic cleaning kit if a more thorough cleaning is required. Keep away from high heat sources like radiators and fireplaces, as heat can cause brittleness and cracking. To prevent scratches, handle the print with a soft cloth or gloves when moving or hanging it. For prolonged storage, keep the print in a cool, dry area, away from direct sunlight and heat.

 

When will I receive my order? 

Most orders arrive within 10 to 15 business days. This includes a production time of 5 to 8 business days, followed by shipping, which typically takes 2 to 5 business days, depending on your location. During the holiday season, it's a good idea to allow for a bit more time.

Can you do custom sizing?

Yes. Select images can be cropped to different ratios, for example 4:3, and many images can be printed larger than the sizes listed. Please note shipping costs can increase significantly once the long side exceeds 40 inches. For a custom size quote, please reach out at info@lisathomasfineart.com
